about me & what i offer

My Background

I spent fifteen years working in education, where I was a safeguarding lead and looked after the holistic welfare of students. Working alongside therapists gave me the drive to explore more about the world of counselling and its impact. It was then that I realised I had found the work I really wanted to do and so I began my training journey to qualify as a professional counsellor.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I work with adults aged 18 plus.

I have varied experience, but key areas of my work include:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Depression and low mood
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Feelings of isolation or hopelessness
  • Bereavement and grief, including loss to suicide
  • Relationship issues
  • Concerns related to retirement
  • Men's issues, including ED
  • LGBTQ+ issues

My Philosophy

I believe that counselling is a powerful and special opportunity to grow and heal and have witnessed the amazing capacity for humans to overcome challenges with the right support. My role is to provide a truly listening ear in a quiet, professional, compassionate and safe space where you can be yourself and gently work through whatever you may need to.

The special therapeutic relationship that this requires is something I hugely value and see as a great privilege. Ultimately, I aim to respect who you are and help you realise and expand your understanding of yourself and your needs.

What to Expect Working With Me

As a person, I am warm and grounded and someone you will find easy to talk to and trust. I work in a tailored, integrative way to best support your individual needs and am not bound within one counselling methodology or modality. I will tailor our sessions to your needs, helping you to work towards any goals you may have, or simply offer my support along your journey to better mental health and wellbeing. We can explore feelings, emotions, thoughts and life patterns that may be causing you pain or distress. Whether you want to explore and make sense of your life today or work on past experiences that appear to be holding you back, I very much hope that I can be of help.

Together, we can enable you to find better ways of being, either through in-person sessions, on the telephone/online or via walk and talk sessions out in nature. This can be done at a pace and in a manner that you are comfortable with to help you manage your present experience in a healthier way. You can also be joined in your session by my trained therapy dog (a Bichon Frisé) if you would find this beneficial.

Taking time out to nurture yourself is hugely important and often much needed. Whatever your reason for looking for support at this time, I understand the effort and leap of faith that this involves. I look forward to receiving your call or email and starting your journey.

The two most important needs are "the need to love and be loved" (Love & Belonging) and (Self Worth & Power) because we need to feel that we are "worthwhile to ourselves and others".
